Position Summary

CaseBank Technologies Inc., a Division of ATP, develops innovative software solutions for troubleshooting and identifying recurring defects on aircraft and other complex equipment. Using case-based reasoning, natural language processing and machine learning, CaseBank’s systems accelerate and improve the accuracy of operations, service and support decisions.

The VP, Software Engineering at CaseBank will direct and oversee software engineering for the organization. He/she will be responsible for growing and managing the software development team, assessing the time required to deliver products and features, and delivering quality releases that meet design requirements according to the agreed schedule. The VP Software Engineering will also be a key contributor to establishing and improving software development processes and practices and to supporting the CaseBank corporate culture.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Performance Objectives

Primary Objectives:

In the first three months, the VP Software Engineering will work closely with the management team – primarily, but not limited to, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – to:

  • understand the current CaseBank software development environment and culture, its interaction with other groups, and the strengths & weaknesses of the current environment;
  • assume responsibility for effective staffing, tasking, and management of the development team from the CTO;
  • review documented product requirements, existing and proposed capabilities, and sales commitments, and begin working with the Product Management and Professional Services groups to establish an implementation roadmap for the next 12 months;
  • identify opportunities for process and training improvement and propose a plan for addressing these needs to the executive management team.

Secondary Objectives:
Over the first six months, the VP Software Engineering will:

  • collaborate with management-level peers and department staff to document and implement an ISO 27001 compliant development process throughout the organization
  • collaborate with CTO, Chief Product Officer (CPO), and Chief Operating Officer (COO) in defining a 2019 Development Roadmap and staffing requirements


  • Assess, mentor, train, and grow a strong software development team.
  • Set clear goals and objectives for the software development team.
  • Build an environment of ambition, excellence, collaboration, and rapid learning.
  • In tandem with the Director of Quality Assurance, implement and monitor systems of processes, metrics, and controls to ensure highly productive development that is compliant with quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Product Management team to establish consistent, clear user interface designs with excellent user experience.
  • Oversee and approve effort estimates for new software development features and product enhancements.
  • Assist the CTO and CPO in preparing technology and product roadmaps and in developing/reviewing product requirements and specifications.
  • Work closely with the CTO to identify technology needs and deficiencies, and to incorporate solutions to those needs and deficiencies.
  • Assist in business development, customer meetings and proposal generation.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 12 years’ experience in the Information Technology Arena
  2. At least 10 years management and strategic experience in this field or MBA/MS in related field with 10 years’ experience, 5 of which must be managerial.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability.
  4. Ability to actively communicate, inspire, and motivate all levels of staff.
  5. Ability to think and act proactively.
  6. Possess a problem-solving aptitude, identifying and selecting advantageous solutions to problems with multiple constraints.
  7. Clarity and conciseness in oral and written communications with technical and non-technical audiences.
  8. Manage and prioritize effectively in a multi-project environment.

CaseBank develops web-based and mobile (iOS, Android) applications used worldwide in the troubleshooting and support of complex, high value in aerospace, automotive, and related industries. Our buzzword stacks include concepts like ML (machine learning), NLP (natural language processing), and CBR (case-based reasoning), and tools like Angular, Responsive Design, Cordova / PhoneGap, PouchDB, CouchDB, SQL Server, Cassandra, and Java.
