Position summary

CaseBank’s ChronicX SaaS application provides recurring maintenance defect identification and tracking for many of the world’s largest and best-known airlines. Our customer base continues to grow at accelerating year-over-year rates, largely through industry word-of-mouth.

We seek an experienced Machine Learning Specialist with real-world experience in classifier design and implementation, unstructured mining of large text corpora, and natural language processing (NLP). In this role you will develop Java implementations of machine learning algorithms that analyze and categorize maintenance reports against the ATA 100 classification scheme. A significant research responsibility of this role will be to prototype and demonstrate methods for adapting generic ATA 100 classifiers to tailored, airline-specific classifiers used at some client sites.

The successful candidate will have experience in both design and practical implementation of classifier systems fielded at scale. You will also be comfortable working in an environment with constant opportunities to tackle new challenges.

Mid-August 2019 through December 2020.
No recruiters please.

  1. Familiarize with and assume responsibility for ongoing classifier training and deployment of classifiers within the ChronicX SaaS application, including development of training/testing data sets and input data normalization.
  2. Maintain and enhance the Java classification algorithms with an emphasis on performance and scalability. Work with the ChronicX implementation team to design and implement mechanisms for automated collection and feedback to training of miscoded, manually corrected records.
  3. Contribute to research and development of other systems that further CaseBank’s goals via NLP automation.

Secondary Objectives:

  1. Collaborate with project managers and ChronicX analysts to support ATA recoding rollout at customer sites and incorporate customer-suggested enhancements to the classification system.
  2. Co-ordinate with QA and DevOps teams to ensure on-time, high quality version upgrades in the production environment.

Required Skillset:

  1. At least 3 years’ experience in machine learning with emphasis on classification and clustering, natural language processing (NLP), and application of applied machine learning methodologies to real-world data.

  6. A strong desire to establish, enhance, and preserve a clean codebase throughout the development life cycle.
  7. A team-player with a strong sense of ownership.
  8. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
